Moving can be stressful, but here are some tips to dramatically reduce your stress levels!
Choose Your Moving Plan
Before engaging our services, the first step is to provide you with an accurate quotation. We will be happy to visit your home or office to review all of the items you want to move. Alternatively, we can provide this service over the telephone as well. Our customer service personnel will guide you through all of the steps for your move and review any of the costs so you understand what you are paying for because we will not surprise you with extra charges that magically appear on the final bill. At this point, you will select a customized moving plan that fits your needs: VIP Services, partial packing, custom crating, etc.
Moving in 6 Easy Steps!
Not Too Heavy!
Try to keep a per –box weight of 50 pounds or less – it makes moving a lot easier! A general rule to remember on carton size –the heavier the item, the smaller the carton. Pack heavier items toward the bottom of the box and lighter items on top.
Make an Inventory
Make yourself a list of your items as you pack and then categorize them by room. This will not only help you stay organized, it will help you make sure that none of your boxes are missing. It will also help you save time when unpacking.
Label Fragile Boxes
We highly recommend labeling all fragile items in boxes with a (fragile) sign or sticker on them. This will not only help you identify and be cautious of the items, but also help movers as well. Also recommended is numbering and labeling boxes by room this let you and movers know where boxes should go. This is a helpful way to also stay organized and saving you time.
Take Notes
Keep your job number or tracking number handy in case you need to call your mover to ask any question about your shipment. Also make sure you have the moving company information and contact numbers as well. We will ask you to provide us with more than one contact number in the event we need to contact you and provide any updates.
Protect Your Memories
If it’s irreplaceable or delicate, take it with you in your car. When packing fragile items such as electronics, framed photos or art, place sheets or blankets between them for added protection.
Don’t Forget About the Fridge!
We recommend thoroughly cleaning your refrigerator prior to a long distance move. Once it is completely dry, place a handful of fresh coffee, baking soda or charcoal in a sock or nylon stocking, then place it inside to keep the interior smelling fresh.
Garage Sale
Having a garage sale can be really useful! Not only will you be getting rid of items you don’t need, but you will make room for other items in your new home and also make some extra cash for travel necessities.
Medications
Make sure that you take all of your medications along with you. Sometimes long distance moving can be impacted by weather, road hazards or other factors.
Take Care of Your Pet
Your pets may sense anxiety above the move and may not feel comfortable around the moving crew. We recommend having a family member or friend look after your pets while the moving team is present.
